Saab meeting in the Bavarian Forest (05 - 07 October 2012)

And now you shall enjoy Matthias' really nice and colorful article just like their meeting!

What started with an idea of one Saab fan in early 2012, was coming true with a great Saab meeting in October with over 100 participants and vehicles of the years 1955 to 2010 in the Bavarian Forest in Germany.

On the first weekend in October, met firmly for the whole weekend registered 76 participants with 38 Saabs at the Adventure Camp [but they were much more than that! ;-) ], the Schnitzmühle (schnitzmuehle) near Viechtach (94234) for the first "Saab meeting in the Bavarian Forest".

The participants came from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Some participants arrived on Wednesday to stay there for a long weekend. Besides the possibility of overnight stay, there was also the option to stay in lodges or on the accompanying campsite in the Schnitzmühle.

The oldest participant was a Saab 92b from 1955 which was piloted by Michael Kissling. The youngest cars were from 2008.

Official program started with on Friday afternoon with a common ride to Furth im Wald - here the Saab dealer Mühlbauer was visited, official Saab base in the region. Other participants then joined the group in Furth im Wald. A new Saab 9-5 II was presented in the exhibition hall and a great coffee and cake buffet provided the setting for the first car talk.

Finally, the participants could still buy spare parts on special terms, and took some of the latest official Saab brochures for free.

After returning to the Schnitzmühle a Saab Sonett showed up. It was an unexpected local guest, for the great pleasure of participants. After a short pause, a Thai-Bay Buffet followed which was enjoyed by all participants in the Schnitzmühle. The weather was very fine on Friday and Saturday, at the evening people could enjoy wine on the terrace outside and watch the cars. Then the Bongo Beach Bar opened in the Saab Zone, here were served drinks and cocktails - including casual seating.

On Saturday morning, the Saab density in Schnitzmühle increased again. After breakfast about 25 Swedish-inspired daily visitors from Bavaria arrived with 17 cars to join for Saturday. In the Saab zone were "Saab treasures" presented by participants - models, brochures, manuals, rarity...

Finaly, 55 Saabs then got on their way through the Bavarian Forest, in glorious October weather. After a first stop in the parking lot the first visiting point was triggered. After driving a short distance, all vehicles parked near by the glass factory Theresienthal (theresienthal) near the town of Zwiesel. The glass factory and the adjacent Museum were visited. Subsequently, after a short snack break, the drivers went on - it was necessary to cross the montain Rusel on the further road

A quick stop parking almost at the highest point of the road - Saab drivers took a short break and then continued the journey towards Deggendorf and Metten.

So many Saab cars in one day have never been at the village Metten. We could chose between a sunny terrace cafe or a visit of the famous monastery library of Metten. The participants dispersed after that and drove some lonely roads on the way to return to the Schnitzmühle [i.e. Adventure Camp].

All participants joined the conference room of Schnitzmühle, where they were greeted with Saab pictures presented by beamer projector. Subsequently, a short story from the Swedish manufacturer in moving pictures were shown. The end of the evening was then as the night before: all participants entered the Bongo Beach Bar.

Sunday began unfortunately with a rainy weather, some participants went home after breakfast, others took the opportunity to make a trip with a little local train (wanderbahn) and the real “survivors” made a 3-hour outdoor program with Hajo Bach (natur-erfahren-lernen).

The meeting generated a surplus of 260.00 EUR which in July 2013 will be given to the Saab Museum in Trollhättan. [ :-) ]

To 99% the meeting will take part again in October 2013.
Interested people may ask questions to the meeting at any time to the organizer Matthias Ketterl by email.
