Rachel Pang , Victor Muller and Saab

Pourquoi Saab?

Why Saab?

-Technology, security, and this is part of the strategy of Youngman to obtain a premium brand, she said thoughtfully.

She speaks English freely after three and a half years in England, where she earned a degree in business administration. The first contact with Saab was taken in October 2010. Rachel Pang was about to become president of cars division.

What was your first impression of Victor Muller?

-He was in Shanghai in February last year. He was charismatic, passionate ... an incredible entrepreneur. It was hard not be impressed.

Just over two months later, in May of last year, there were rumors going exactly the opposite. Despite the agreement with Youngman, Victor Muller has negotiated with several other Chinese manufacturers. It was painful and chose Hawtai.

How did you know?

She sighs.

Victor told me face to face, just before the news was announced. I was very sad. We had so much worked.

She thought a moment.

-It was like being in a love affair. But he thought no more of us.

Why?

-I do not know. It was the Board of Directors of Saab's parent company, Swan who made the decision. But I know that they have not obtained all the information.

A few weeks later the director of business development Martin Larsson reminded us. Saab wanted to collaborate again, this time with Pang Da.

You hesitated?

We have given much thought to our own risk and we wanted to save the company, she said.

Then followed an autumn with the constant lack of funds, reorganization and, ultimately, bankruptcy. Youngman has been accused of not keeping their promise.

Comment?

-You must remember that Saab was very ill. Victor and Saab did not understand all the Chinese rules. All the big money transfers must be approved by the NDRC.

Could you have financed the reconstruction?

-We brought over 20 million euros. We had reached a limit and it took a while to get permission for more money.

Are you in contact with Victor Muller today?

-Yes, and HE sometimes sends ME sms and inquires about the situation.

We are approaching the city center. Skyscrapers. Suddenly raising his arm and Rachel Pang pointing at .

-This is where I live.

Imagine a mixture of Strand in Stockholm and New York on the north bank of the river that divides the city. This is a top floor apartment recently built, with panoramic views.

-When I was a kid, I went with my father in various plants and have had a taste for working in the family business. After training, I worked two months on the assembly line of buses - and nobody knew who I was.

Now she is Chair of the Department cars in Youngman, conducted in collaboration with Lotus Cars, owned by the Malaysian Proton. Last year, were sold only 35,000 cars in two model lines in China. But Youngman is in the starting blocks to launch several new models. It means a lot to work with Lotus and many teleconferences with England - in addition to the Saab business.

-When it was more intense with Saab, I spoke with my father every day at midnight on the phone. I sit very often in conference calls with Europe towards 3-4-AM. Then go back to sleep a bit and starts working again.

Leisure?

-I have very little free time, but I love cooking. It's relaxing, she said, smiling.

We have now entered the downtown and we sat in a cafe. The smoke of her virgin Latte. She continues to talk.

- Is a total of about ten people from different services. But for weeks, I was completely alone in Sweden last fall. Then we worked almost day and night.

She is calm.

-It was written that I did not appear in court in December. But the fact is that I got sick. I worked too.

Honestly, you have thought of giving up after bankruptcy?

No, not really. We added nearly 50 million in Saab.

Now she is back in Sweden. Go around with a delegation and his father, and soon met the Swedish political elite.
